Dec. 22, 2013 We had a couple of ice fishermen in the store yesterday.  They were at the dam and reported about 6" or REAL CLEAR ice.  One of the fishermen caught his limit and the others in the group did not do quite as good.  Remember, the ice on the lake is not officially monitored and you go on the ice at your own risk!  Please stop by the store and tell us how you did, so that we can share this with your fellow fishermen!

Dec 15, 2013 There were several fisherman on the ice today.  They did not stop in the store to give us any further details.  Just remember, the ice is NOT officially monitored, you go on the ice at your own risk!

Nov 28, 2013 Drove the lake today. The following report is from about 11 am on Thanksgiving Day.
Lake level is less than 66%. Do not have an accurate measurement as the state web site is having problems.
Coot Bay and Mallard are both still clear of ice. The cement boat ramp at Mallard is high and dry.
Lightening Tree and Long Point are starting to ice up.
Fairview has a thin layer of ice. Some open water that is completely surrounded by ice.
Mosquito Slew has a small amount of open water, but is mostly ice.
Cow Creek, Jenkins, Old Camp 5 and Eagle Point are all ice free.
Talked with some folks that had been out trolling. Landed six, had several that spit the hook. They were trolling at about 10 feet and using flies and Dick Nites.
The road at the top of the lake and on the west side north of Old Camp 5 has several muddy areas that are probably icy in the morning. Did not use 4WD at all.
Nov 11, 2013 Lake Level is at 66%
Temp is in the low 40’s
Bank Fishing: Old Camp 5, Eagle Point and Fairview are all doing very well. Worms or Powerbait.
Trolling: Mixed results, some are limiting others are having a hard time. Troll slow, 150 ft behind the boat. Wee Dick Nite Copper Red Head, Metallic Perch, Yellow Watermelon are all reported doing well, with the Dick NIte doing the best.
Fly: Black, Rust and Orange are the colors that seem to be doing well in Wiggle Tail and Wooly Buggers. Mosquito Slew and Jenkins up to Cow Creek.

Oct 18, 2013 Today at Coot Bay, a couple from San Jose caught these very nice fish. Yes there are 3 German Browns on the stringer. All the fish looked good.  Pictures are on Facebook.Follow us on FaceBook
Oct 01, 2013 Lake level is at 69%
Our campground is open. However , currently all boat ramps and all Forest Service campgrounds are closed. We will post boat ramp updates as we get them.
Fishing is doing well.
Trolling Dick Nite copper red head, and the Dick Nite pearl hot head, or anything with pink
Fly - Jenkins to Freeman creek using Burnt orange, Rust and Olive wiggle tail, sheep creek, and snails.
Bank worms with a marshmallow at Fairview Point.
Sept 23, 2013 Lake level is at 70%.  The water temp is unknown, but we are having 30 degree nights, so it should be dropping.
Trolling:  The Dick Nite and Pearl Hot Head was working well yesterday.
Bank:  It is slowing down a bit due to the cooler weather.
Fly:  Jon B had a fly fishing class this weekend they were doing well with Burnt Orange Wiggle Tails and Rus Wiggle Tails at the North end of the lake.

Lake level is at 70%  Water temp is in the low 60’s in the morning, rising to about 66 in the afternoon. Fishing has been improving over the last few days. Bank:  Mallard Cove in the Morning; Wally starts around 5:30.  Worms or powerbait Trolling:  Around the big island and in the channel.  Dick Nite Copper Red Head, Red Dot Frog and Fire Tiger Patterns Fly:  West side, most reports from Jenkins and Cow Creek.  Ice Cream Cone, Blood Midge, Woolly Bugger, Wiggle Tail, Snails and Scuds have all been reported as working.  Yes the snails are back.

Sept 11, 2013 Work on Honker Cove boat ramp is progressing, slowly. They pushed in one of the ramp slabs yesterday, and will begin prepping for the next one to be poured.
Lake level is at 70%
Water temperature is in the low to mid 60’s
Overall fishing has been a bit on the slow side. Some folks are limiting out and others are getting skunked.
Fly – West side and top of the lake. Danny has been using ice cream cone and wiggle tails with success.
Bank – Eagle Point, Old Camp 5 and Mallard have had the best reports. Power bait or worms.
Trolling – Near the big island. Wee Dick Nite Copper Red Head, Red Dot Frog, Fire Tiger. Bait fishing on the North East side of the big island has been seeing some results.

Aug 20, 2013 Fishing overall has been fair to good.
Bank fishing has been good at Mallard using nightcrawlers or powerbait; early morning has been most productive.
Trolling, fish seem to be somewhat scattered throughout the lake. Best results have been in the channel on the east side; 10-15 feet in the morning going down to 20+ in the afternoon, especially on warm days. Dick Nite Copper Red Head, Red Dot Frog, and Fire Tiger have all been seeing results.
Fly-fishing, No reports. However, damsels, blood midge, mayflies, wooly buggers, wiggle tails, or ice cream cones should all work.
Cat fishing has been good at Camp 5 and Eagle Point. Nightcrawlers or Catfish bait.
Aug 6, 2013 Lake level is 73%
Water temp is in the 70’s
Trolling has been good in the channel. The bigger fish are 20 – 30 feet down. Dick Nite Copper Red heads, Red Dot Frog and Fire Tiger patterns have been working well.
Bank fishing in the morning before 9 has been best for trout. Wally Wright caught a nice 18 incher this morning at Mallard Cove. Fishing for catfish has been good off of Grasshopper and at Eagle Point in the evening.
No report from Fly Fishing, however there was a damsel hatch yesterday.

Lake level is 76%
Water temp has been in the high 60’s in the AM rising to about 74 in the afternoon.
Trout are going deeper as the water warms up.
Bank fishing for Trout has slowed down, however with patience fish are being caught at Mallard, Eagle Point and Fairview. Powerbait in Rainbow, Chartreuse, Sherbet or Worms have all been working. Cats are being caught at Fairview and Eagle Point.
N...o reports on Fly Fishing other than the West side is where they have been catching.
Trolling, above the big island and in the channel. Dick Nite Copper Red Head (1 or 0), Red Dog Frog, Metallic Perch and Fire Tiger Patterns have all been doing well. About 15 feet in the morning dropping down to 20+ latter in the day.
June 24, 2013 Lake Level is 77% full. Water temp is about 62 degrees
Fishing has been good. It will probably be a bit slow on Monday and Tuesday this week with the weather and full moon.
Fly Fishing –we have confirmed Hexagenia Mayflies on the lake. Check out Jon’s Blog. Fly fishing has been best on the West and North West side of the lake.
Bank has been doing well at Mallard, Fairview and Eagle Point.
Trolling above the big island. No reports below the big island toward the dam. Usual lures, Dick Nite Copper Red Head, Red Dot Frog, Metallic Perch and Fire Tiger patterns.

June 12, 2013 REMINDER:  The Annual Lake Davis Spring Fishing Derby is this weekend!  The procedes for the fishing derby goes to our local volunteer fire department for water rescue equipment.  This equipment is urgently needed by our fire department in response to an accident last year.  Read about the incident here.

Fly fishing from Eagle Point to Jenkins, we had a blood midge and flying ant hatch this weekend. Assort Nymps, Blood Midge, Ice Cream Cone and Wooly Buggers in Orange.
Bank fishing at Eagle Point, Nightcrawlers, Powerbait or Eggs have all worked well
Apr 29, 2013 Lightening Tree area, Eagle Point, Coot Bay and Mallard Cove have all been producing nice results. The lake is 82% full.
Fish have been going up the streams. Remember the streams going into the lake are closed until the Saturday of Memorial Weekend.
Apr 22, 2013 We received numerous great fishing reports from the last weekend.  Larry Goldsmith reported that they were catching their limit in less than an hour and that the fish were hitting hard and were nice sized.  Several fly fishermen stopped by and told us that ice cream cones and Woolly Buggers were working great also.
Apr 17, 2013 The current lake level is at 82%.
Over the last weekend, we talked with several fly fishermen.  They reported that fishing was GREAT at Coot's Bay and Mosquito.  They would not share all of their secrets on what they were using; however, they bought ice cream cone flies and Wooly Buggers.

Apr 7, 2013 Ed Dillard reported that his brother caught a 21" 2 1/2 pound trout yesterday.  Fishing is picking up.  No report from the Fly Fishermen.
Apr 3, 2013 As of today docks are in at Lightening Tree (about 4 feet of water at the end of the ramp) and at Old Camp 5. Honker is still closed for repairs.
Mar30, 2013 Road on West side is now open. Forest Service plowed it out and down to the ramp at Camp 5. Be careful on some of the fishing access roads, had one person get stuck today at Jenkins.
Mar 30, 2013 Talked with Ed Dillard this morning. Small boats have been able to launch at ramp at Mallard. Also over the last week the fishing has been hit and miss, one day good, the next in the same area slow.
Mar 29, 2013 Lake appears to be 100% ice free. Water level is 80%.
Fishing at Mallard has been slow. However the folks who have been fishing near streams are doing well. Fish are starting to gather for spawning.
Remember the streams coming into Lake Davis do not open until the Saturday of Memorial Weekend.
East side has the best access. Coot Bay, Mallard and Lightening Tree are all accessible. The boat ramp at Lightening Tree is accessible, dock is not in and watch for the rocks.
Mar 24, 2013 There is a good 70% open water on the lake. Ice in the dam area, however it's safety is questionable. East side road is open, West side road is snowed in (as of 3/23)

Bank fishing in the AM Eagle Point / Camp 5 area; afternoon, Grasshopper, Coot Bay and Mallard.  Inflated night crawlers, Powerbait in Rainbow, Chartreuse, or Sherbet.

Trolling in the AM about 15 feet going to about 24 feet in the afternoon, Wee Dick Night Copper Red Head has been working well.

Fly fishing; Jenkins going north and across top to Mosquito, Ice Cream Cones, Damsals, Bead Head Flash Back Pheasant Tail, Assorted Nymphs, Woolys in Olive, Rust, Black and Brown

Cat fishing, at Camp 5 has been good.

Trolling was excellent this last week.  By the big island limits plus being caught.  Fish size up to 18 ½ inches.  Wee Dick Nite Copper Red Head working the best. Needlefish Fire Tiger and Red Dot Frog also producing results.

 Fly fishing, ice cream cones, blood midges, damsels, woolly buggers in olive, rust or black

 Bank fishing for trout early has been best.  Inflated nightcrawlers best.  Powerbait in Lemon Twist, Rainbow, Sherbet and Chartreuse.  Eagle Point, or off the points at Honker (no fishing area inside the cove)

Bank fishing for catfish, nightcrawlers or catfish bait.  Eagle Point has been very productive.

Water temp in the AM 71 degrees rising to 74 in the afternoon

Lake level is at 73% full

Best boat ramp to use is Honker Cove.  Lightening Tree is Very shallow.  No reports on Camp 5.

Jun 25, 2012 Congratulations to the Fishing Derby winners.  The winning fish was 19 inches and 2.2 lbs.

High winds have made fishing rough the last few days.  Looks like they will calm down on Tuesday according to the NOAA weather report.

Water temp on Sunday was 61.5 degrees
Lake level is at 78.5% full

Trolling, Dick Nite Copper Red Heads were doing well on Sunday; additionally Needlefish Red Dot Frog, Sockeye Slammer Fire Tiger, Rainbow Runner in Red or Green.  Fish on Sunday were from the top down to about 10 ft.  Earlier in the week down to around 20 ft.

Bait fishing, Powerbait in Lemon Twist, Rainbow, Chartreuse or Sherbet, or inflated nightcrawlers. Eagle Point continues to be good, Mallard and Coot are picking up.

Fly fishing, Suspended Damsels, Woolly Buggers in Olive, Rust, Black or Brown, Copper John, Flash Back Pheasant Tail and Blood Midge have all been doing well. West side from Eagle Point to Freeman have all been reported as productive, morning and late afternoon/evening the best.

Catfish are biting, and Crawdads are being caught.

Fishing continues to be good.
Eagle Point continues to be hot.  Powerbait in Rainbow, Chartreuse or Sherbet; or inflated nightcrawlers.
Fly Fishing from Eagle Point to Freeman has been good.  Assort nymphs, damsels, woolly buggers, flash back pheasant tail, and copper johns have all been reported to be doing well.  A few reports of good fly fishing off of Mallard Cove.  Damsels have been reported to be coming off.
Trolling:  between the islands on the west side of them.  Needlefish - Red Dot Frog, Yellow Watermelon; Sockeye Slammer in Fire Tiger, Red Rainbow Runner, Green Rainbow Runner all have been doing well.

Fishing continues to be very good.  The west side still is out fishing the east side.  Lures, Flies and baits continue to be the same as last week.

Fly fishing has been good off of Eagle Point using Nymphs
Trolling: Between the small and big island on the west side was the place to be on Monday. Needlefish Red Dot Frog or Sockeye Slammer Fire Tiger.
Catfish are being caught at Coot Bay.
May 2, 2012 Fishing continues to be good. Fish are still spawning. Bite is on and off throughout the day,
Bank Fishing: Powerbait or Nightcrawlers ,best reports have been from Eagle Point and Mallard.
Trolling: Slow is the key, 150 ft. behind the boat, fish are being caught from the surface down. Wee Dick Nite Copper Red Head, Sockeye Slammer Fire Tiger, Needlefish Red Dot Frog have all been reported as working.
Fly fishing has been consistent. Best reports from Grasshopper and Eagle Point. Mosquito Slough and Fairview Point have been reported as very murky
All three boat docks are in.
Bank Fishing has been hot at Mallard Cove. No reports this week for fly or trolling.
Water level is 79% and the temp was 47 today.

We are going into a warming trend over the next few days, mid-50's with lows in the mid-30's.

Fly fishing this weekend was great for some and slow for others.  Reports of greater than 15 caught, but also only 1 or 2.  Bite is very soft.

Bank fishing, Turbo Powerbait in Rainbow was hot at Mallard Cove.  Also, salmon eggs, Powerbait in Red or Pink and nightcrawlers were catching some fish.

 No reports on trolling

 Fish are moving up the streams to spawn. The streams are closed to fishing until the Saturday before Memorial Day.

With our storm on Saturday, access to the lake is a bit sloppy but doable without 4wd. We are still freezing at night so there may be ice on the roads going into the lake.

Fishing at Coots Bay was reported as fair on Sunday.  Limits caught but it took awhile

Fishing continues to be good at Mallard Cove and Coot Bay.  Turbo Powerbait in Rainbow seems to be working the best, also using Red Powerbait, and Nightcrawlers.
Fly fishing Black AP's are working well.
Mar 11, 2012 Fishing continues to be good.  Rainbow Turbo Powerbait or worms.  As of today Mallard Cove is accessible without 4wd, may change with storms coming in.
Ice in the dam area is shrinking, is still being fished, do not have a report on thickness
There has been a thin layer of ice in the early morning on the lake but melts off quickly.
If you go out on the ice use your own discretion if it is safe or not.
Feb 26, 2012 Ice in the dam area is reported to be about 5 inches thick
Open water north of the dam area.  Fishing has been a bit hit and miss, one day it is red hot (limits plus) the next it will be slow.  As of Sunday, most access points are accessible; however we have snow predicted for this week, which may impact accessibility to the lake.
Worms, Powerbait extra scent, and jigs have been the most successful.
Feb 5, 2012 Great Derby this past weekend. Had 100 participants. Everyone had a wonderful time. Fished both open water and ice. Fishing was a bit slow, however the moon was almost full.

Ice is about 4-6 inches thick, seems to be changing daily. Fishing under the ice; worms, and chartreuse jigs are working the best.

Open water from the bank; worms, or Powerbait. Mallard Cove and Coots Bay are accessible by 4wd vehicle.

Canoes and Kayaks, easily put in at Mallard Cove or Coots Bay, worms or Powerbait.

Remember the ice is not monitored, use your own discretion if it is safe or not.
