Please stop by the store and give us a fishing report (good or bad) so that we can share the fishing with everyone.  Thanks!

Trolling in the channel from Honker Cove to just pat the Big Island. Varying from 12 to 20 feet. Dick Nite Copper Redhead and Needlefish Red Dot Frog.
Sep 15, 2014 Fishing is IMPROVING!  The water temp is dropping.
Several fishermen dropped into the store and shared their "SUCCESS" story.  Many are trolling between Mallard and the island in a criss-cross pattern with Red Dot Frog and Dick Nite Copper Red Head about 20 to 25 feet deep and limiting out.
Jon Baiocchi from Baiocchi's Trout Fitters stopped by the store and said that his clients last weekend also limited out.  They caught and released a 27"+ trout that was about 5+ pounds.  All of his clients were pleased with the fishing and better yet, catching!
Bank fishermen are still doing very well.  Camp Five, and Mallard are still the "hot" locations.

Aug 11, 2014 The fish are still "eating well" between the nightly bug hatches, snails, crawfish.  They are still being a challenge to catch.  However the ones that are being shown to us in the store are NICE!
Aug 04, 2014 The bank fishermen have been doing better than the folks trolling.
One of our "regular" fishermen came in over the weekend and showed us a really nice stringer of five fish.  They were between 24 and 27 inches, between 2 and 3.5 pound.  He caught them at Mallard Cove using worms and powerbait.
Fly fishing is still slow.  Probably because the fish are still "eating very well" between the bugs, snails, and crawfish.
Aug 01, 2014 The fish are still "eating well" between the nightly bug hatches, snails, crawfish.  They are being a challenge to catch.  However, the ones that are being shown to us in the store are nice!
Jul 28, 2014 The fish have been eating well between snails, crawfish, and bugs. They are being a challenge to catch. However, the ones we have been seeing are nice lengths and weights.

Bank fishing...Limits plus at Mallard Cove. Old Camp 5 has been seeing several caught also.

Trolling....slow. Catching at 20-25 ft. Dick Nite Copper Red Head sz 1, or wooly bugger. Some boaters have been anchoring and fishing the bottom in 30 ft of water with good results.

Fly...slow, do not have a good fly report.
Jul 21, 2014  Fishing this weekend was "unusual" to say the least.  The bank fishermen were catching their limit using night crawlers and Garlic scented Rainbow PowerBait at Mallard Cove early morning.  The fishermen that attempted trolling this weekend had a "mixed" review.  Some did real well and some got "skunked".  I guess that is why it is called fishing and why it is not called catching.  The fly fishermen did not check in this weekend; so we do not have a report for that group.
Stop by the store for more current fishing information.
Jul 14, 2014 Fishing is improving.  We had several fishermen come into the store to "brag" about their catches.

Jul 07, 2014 See an article about Lake Davis and J&J Grizzly Store on Reno KTVN Channel 2 News.

Trolling fishermen were also doing great with Wee Dick Nights and Copper Red heads.
We did not receive any fishing report from our fly fishermen.
Jun 30, 2014 From the Portola Newspaper:

Lake Davis is fishing well right now and likely to get even better over the next few weeks.

The damsel fly hatch is in full swing. The best fishing is mid-morning when the rainbows are actively feeding on damsel nymphs.

Midges nymphs fished under an indicator are a good bet early in the morning if you don’t see a lot of surface feeding fish.

Wolly buggers are a good bet when the wind is up during the middle of the day. I have not heard reports of Hexagenia yet, but I would sure like to spend an evening on Davis right now and give that a try.

It remains to be seen just how well established the Hexagenia are in Davis just yet, but there is every reason to expect excellent action at some point in the near future. That could be next year or two, or it could be tomorrow night.

Davis is a shallow lake so leave the full sink line at home and fish nymphs on a floating line with a moderate to long leader adjusted to achieve the depth I want, usually in the top three feet of water.

Trollers are picking up some nice rainbows on Wee Dick Nite Copper Red Heads and Yellow watermelon Needlefish.
Jun 20, 2014 Picture of the Father's Day Spring Fishing Derby is posted on our FACEBOOK page:Follow us on FaceBook
